I have just been told that I have type 2 diabetes. What do I do now?
Come to "Meals, Meds and Monitoring". You will learn about healthy eating, medications, testing your blood sugars and so much more.

Where and when are the classes?
The classes are held in east, west, south and downtown Windsor. We also teach in Belle River, Essex, Leamington, Harrow, LaSalle, Kingsville, and Amherstburg. Classes are held mornings, afternoons and evenings. Classes are a series of four. Each class is two hours long.

I have had diabetes for many years. Should I still come to classes?
Yes. You will get up-to-date information that may make managing your diabetes easier.

I came to classes a few years ago. Will I learn anything new?
Yes! We are always learning new information that we share with the people in our classes.

Do I need a Doctor's referral?
No, you can call and register yourself. A family member can also  make the referral on your behalf.

How can I register for classes?
Call 519-254-3402 extension 110.

Is there a cost?
No, the classes are free.

Who can come to the classes?
The classes are for adults with diabetes or who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. They are for anyone living in Windsor and Essex County.

Is it OK to bring a guest?
Yes, we encourage people to bring a guest.

What if I miss a class?
Call our office as soon as you know you will have to miss a class. We will find you a class to make up the missed one.

Can I repeat the classes?
Yes, you are can do this any time. Just call our office to register again...

I have been told I have borderline or pre- diabetes. Should I come to classes?
Yes. With knowledge, pre-diabetes can be managed to prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes. The earlier you make changes, the better.

Where else can I get information?
The Canadian Diabetes Association is located at 2605 Howard Avenue or you can call the Windsor office at 519-253-1797. The CDA website is located at www.diabetes.ca

Diabetes in Action can be called to arrange an individual appointment with a registered nurse or registered dietitian. A referral is not required the service is free
