Programme Description and History
The Diabetes Programme Windsor-Essex began in 1998 in response to the Ministry of Health Diabetes Complication Prevention Strategy. The focus of the programme is to educate adults with or at risk for type 2 diabetes, and to assist people to manage their condition to prevent complications. The team of Registered Dietitians and Registered Nurses also do community education through health fairs, in service to schools and to health care professionals.
A support group meets monthly to assist people in their self management and features discussion, sharing and guest speakers on topics of interest to people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
